How to Use Safari on the iPad

Here you will find built-in bookmarked sites as well as sites you?ve added (Figure 7). Tap on a folder to see the bookmarks contained inside. You can also view your web browsing history by tapping on the History folder.

If you want to remove or reorder a bookmark, tap the Edit button at the top right-hand side of the window. Tap the red minus button to delete a bookmark or drag the three horizontal lines up / down to change its order (Figure 8). The Multiple Page Button appears as a small square with a number on top (Figure 9).

As you browse, you may want to visit a second website without exiting the first. To do this, tap on the Multiple Page button (Figure 9) to get a bird?s eye view of all your open windows (Figure 10). To close a window, tap the ?X? icon on the top left-hand side of the window. To open a new window, tap on the dotted-outline square that says ?New Page.? This will open a blank page identical to your original Safari page. To go back, tap on the New Page Button again and select your desired window.

The last button found in the Safari toolbar is the Action button. Tapping this button brings up several options (Figure 11). You can add the currently viewed page as a bookmark by tapping ?Add Bookmark.? A pop-up window will let you name the bookmark and choose a folder you wish to place it in. ?Add to Home Screen,? will place a bookmark on the homepage of your iPad for the currently viewed page. Then to visit this page again, just tap the icon on the home screen.

Tapping on ?Mail Link to this Page? will bring up a blank email with the website?s linked located in the body of the message. The email will be sent using your default email account, which can be adjusted in the Settings app. The last option under the Action menu is ?Print.? AirPrint is a feature in iOS and requires an AirPrint enabled printer from HP.

Regarding how to navigate a web page in Safari, it?s as simple as moving your finger. Moving up, down, left or right, is done by swiping your finger across the screen. Since the iPad also supports multitouch gestures, you can zoom in and out of a page for easier reading by pinching with two fingers. Pinch ?out? or pull your fingers away from each other while on the screen to zoom IN. Bring your fingers together while on the screen to zoom OUT. To click on a link or button on a webpage, just touch it with your finger. For further video tutorials, visit Apple?s Guided Tours here: http://www.apple.com/ipad/guided-tours/

As you browse the web, you can also perform a ?long-press? on an image or link. Doing so will bring up a contextual menu with the options: Open, Open in New Page - Save Image - Copy. Tapping open will open the linked page on top of the site you?re currently viewing. Open in New Page will open the link in a new window. Tapping on Save Image will save the photo you tapped on to the Photos app. Pressing Copy will copy the link to your clipboard and it can be pasted elsewhere, such as an email or note. To paste text or a photo, double-tap in a blank text field and select ?Paste.?
